Motability

New Superb now available from £295 Advance Payment

How Motability Works

With Motability you simply exchange your mobility allowance-either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance or the War Pensioners’ Motability Supplement for a brand new car. Your allowance will go directly to Motability, in exchange for a car. Included with the car is a whole host of benefits, so the only thing you actually need to budget for is your fuel. You don’t even have to be able to drive yourself as you can nominate up to two other drivers or, equally, if your child receives the allowance you can get a car on their behalf.

Eligibility

If you (or a family member or friend) currently receive either the Higher Mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, and you have at least 12 months of remaining benefit, then you are eligible to choose a brand new car through the Motability Scheme.

If your benefit is not renewed during the lease period on your chosen model, then you will have to return it when your allowance ends. It's also possible to apply on the behalf of a child aged three or older, as long as they are entitled to the Higher Mobility component of the DLA. There are no medical assessments for the scheme, and you can choose a vehicle straight away without being placed on a waiting list.

All vehicles are provided fully taxed and insured, and every manufacturer and dealer will offer you a reassuringly high level of cover.

To guarantee that your Motability Scheme car is perfect for you, the majority of adaptations can be made to the model at no extra charge. You can also name up to two drivers for your chosen car for free – another person nominated can drive the car if you don't want to or are unable to.

Whilst you remain on the scheme, you are guaranteed a brand new car every three years or a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) every five years, full breakdown assistance, and free repairs for your windscreen and tyres.

We understand at Progress ŠKODA that sometimes the application process may seem daunting, so please allow us 20 minutes of your time at any of our sites to explain how we can take away any concerns. We aim to make it a stress-free experience for you.

Why Join

When you join Motability through Progress ŠKODA you get more than just the car of your choice, you get all the support and help you need to enjoy worry-free motoring.

All this is included:

A new car of your choice every three years

You get a brand new car every three years. We will contact you a few months before your lease expires, and if you decide to continue with Motability, you can choose a car for your next three year contract (provided you are still eligible).

Insurance

The worry-free package provides similar cover to what you would expect under a fully comprehensive insurance policy. You can still lease a car even if you don’t drive, you simply nominate two drivers who can drive on your behalf. And if you decide to leave Motability at a later stage, you can request a letter confirming your claims history to take to your new insurer.

Servicing and maintenance

All of your regular servicing and maintenance is included and taken care of by your dealer. So you’ll have no unexpected repair bills with your Motability car. We even contact you when it’s time for service.

Full breakdown assistance from RAC

The RAC Motability Assist helpline and roadside staff are specially trained to handle your calls and are available on 0800 73 111 73, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Assistance is provided for recovery, either at the roadside or at home.

Annual car tax

The full cost of annual road fund licence is included within the scheme under the initial provision of a tax exemption certificate.

Replacement tyres fitted by Kwik Fit

For no extra cost Kwik Fit will replace tyres worn or damaged by normal use. They also provide a mobile service so your tyres can be replaced for no extra cost at your home or work.

Window and windscreen repair or replacement

Should anything happen to your windows or windscreen you can get them repaired or replaced at no extra cost.

60,000 mileage allowance over three years

You get 60,000 mileage allowance over three years with cars. However, if the total mileage is higher than the allowance when you return the car, there is a charge of 5p for every additional mile.

Many adaptations at no extra cost

If you need adaptations to make your car easier, safer or simply more comfortable to use, you’ll be pleased to know that many of the most popular ones are now available at no additional cost.

Many cars at no Advance Payment

Motability offers a huge range of cars to choose from, suiting all needs and budgets. Many cars cost no more than your weekly allowance – some even cost less than your allowance, giving you money back to spend as you wish. You can increase your choice of cars even further by topping up your allowance with an upfront payment, or what we call an ‘Advance Payment.’

How It Works

The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to lease a new car by exchanging their Government funded mobility allowance . If you receive either the Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) , the War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS) or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP) you may be eligible to join the Motability Scheme.

1. Choose your vehicle

When choosing a new vehicle, there is a lot to consider, including cost, suitability and fuel consumption. To make it easier to find a vehicle that meets your needs, please speak to any of our trained specialists who will ‘best match’ your specific requirements to the new car you deserve.

2. Order your vehicle

Once you have decided which vehicle is right for you, your Motability specialist will complete your order with you using our simple online system. We will then send you an acceptance letter containing your Personal Identification Number (keep this safe as you need it to collect your vehicle). Before making your final decision it’s worth discussing with us the expected delivery time for your new car as this can vary from model to model. It could take a few weeks, but please stay in touch with your dealer in case there are delays. Remember to check the Immediate Availability section of this website if you require a car quickly.

Financial Help

For customers who would otherwise be unable to afford the type of vehicle they need, Motability UK may be able to offer financial help. This could include the Advance Payment for a car, adaptations, driving lessons or a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV).

We may be able to support you by:

  • Advising you about cars and adaptations that would meet your needs; some of which may be available at a low Advance Payment
  • Arranging a lease extension on your current Motability car if it is still suitable
  • Arranging a mobility or driving assessment to find out exactly what you need
  • Considering an application for financial help towards the solution that meets your needs*

If Motability UK is able to provide financial help, you are expected to contribute as much as you can afford towards a vehicle solution that will meet your mobility needs. There is a lot of demand for financial help and they try to ensure that the available money is used to help as many people as possible to become or remain mobile.

What can Motability give financial help towards?

Advance Payments on standard production cars. This is the one-off upfront payment on a car

Adaptations such as swivel seats and wheelchair hoists. More basic adaptations, such as hand controls, pedal modifications and steering wheel balls are available free of charge through our Motability Managed Adaptations Programme (MMAP). Driving lessons: if you are a Motability customer aged between 16 and 29, you may be eligible for help towards the cost of lessons.

Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) for customers who wish to get in a car while remaining seated in their wheelchair, whether as a driver or passenger. Applications for these vehicles can, in some cases, take a little longer and may require a mobility assessment to fully understand your needs.

Adaptations

Types of adaptations

Adaptations are available through Agnew Motability to make your driving, or travelling, experience as comfortable as possible. Adaptations can help you drive, stow your wheelchair or scooter, or get in and out of the car.

If you’re looking for an adaptation to help improve your travelling experience, it’s worth bearing in mind that adaptations generally fall into three categories:

  • Driving adaptations, to help improve your driving experience
  • Stowage adaptations, these allow you to stow your scooter or wheelchair
  • Access adaptations, which help you get in and out of the car

It is strongly recommended that you work out what type of adaptation you may need before you make your final choice of car, as not all adaptations are suitable for every type of car. We will, of course help you with this, so please just contact us to arrange an appointment at the earliest opportunity. The on-site specialists will discuss the adaptations that can all be fitted locally to make life that little bit easier.
